We’re completely enamoured by artist Xinmei Liu’s brilliantly clever and humor-filled work. This piece is a play on the new year blessing 连年有余—used to wish one “abundance year after year.” When visually represented, this blessing is often found with an illustration of a lotus 莲 lian, a homophone with 连 meaning consecutive and often visually displayed with a fish 鱼 yu, a homophone with abundance 余. Here, Xinmei, being a cat person, has replaced a fish with a cat to offer “cat all year round.”
